The K Jetronic is a full mechanical injection system with continuous injection (CIS). That is the injectors on this system spray fuel continuously in a fine atomised spray into the inlet manifold. The igntion system is still controlled by a conventional distributor. The amount of fuel injected is in accordance with the amount of air being drawn in by the engine and this is measured by the Air Flow Sensor. Therefore any vacuum leaks upstream of the metering control unit will cause lean mixtures, hard starting and poor throttle response. The fuel pump has the ability to provide a huge amount of fuel of which most will be returned to the fuel tank. Due to the nature of this system, specialised equipment is required.
